You can import data from any program that can generate
data files in the CSV (comma separated values) format, such as Outlook,
Excel and Palm devices. Accounts, Contacts and Leads can all be imported
using the CSV data file format.
Importing works in the same manner for Accounts, Contact
and Leads. The following will describe the procedure for importing Leads,
although the same procedure applies to Accounts and Contacts.
- Go to the Leads tab page.
- Click the Import Leads link located in the Lead
Tools section. This takes you to the Import
Records page. Importing your data is an easy two-step
process.
- Specify the location of the CSV file that contains the data
you want to import. Click the Browse button
to locate the file.
- Select a Column Assignment setting if you
have previously saved one. Click the Delete link
if you want to delete the currently selected column assignment.
- Click the Continue button to go to step 2.
- Salesboom.com reads each data entry from the first line from
your CSV file. You can now assign each data entry to a Salesboom.com
data field in each listed section using the data field drop down
boxes. Keep in mind that your CSV file is formatted like this:
Column 1, Column 2, Column3, Column 4.
Each field listed in the drop down boxes is associated with a
column. Column 1 is associated with the first
item in the CSV line. Column 2 is the second
item and so on.
- Once you have specified how data in the first line is to be
read, you can save your settings by entering a name in the Save
Setting As text field. By doing this you can import
an identically formatted CSV file without having to manually
assign the data fields again. You can simply choose your saved
setting in Step 1. If you do this you are still
able to make changes to the data field assignments in Step
2 if necessary.
- Every line in the CSV file is read using the data field assignments
you just set up. A new lead will be created for each line in
the file. This process could take a while if you have a large
number of entries.
- Click the Continue button. An information
box will pop up telling you that it could be a while before your
data has been imported. You can continue working or you can logout
of SalesBoom.com You can even logoff of your computer and shut
it off.
